An underlying commonality of both HTC Vive and Oculus Rift is the inevitable dependency on a computer to render images for it. Although these devices have gained popularity among the developers and VR enthusiasts, the high pricing and conditional portability pull them back from being consumer friendly. Catering to these issues, both HTC and Oculus are coming up with standalone Head mounted displays which rather depend on an inbuilt processing unit to render the virtual world. These devices have the advantages of being untethered or unbound to other hardware components in the system which gives the user more freedom of movement.
