Batik prints are seen a lot in the life of Sri Lanka. Common people there, wear a lot of batik printed clothes. There are various prints, designs and colours seen in these prints. However, Sri Lankan batiks are unique in prints and designs than any other batik. A lot of sarongs, shirts and other beachwear clothing have batik prints. Batik print-making includes a process of waxing and dyeing on a cloth. Wax is applied to mask the parts from being dyed. Thus, the desired design is not covered by wax and when the cloth is put in the dye, the unmasked parts catch the colour. The Sri Lankan batiks have typical figures and motifs that make them distinct from others. Apart from other various motifs being used, elephants are often noticed as a batik pattern due to the significance and cultural importance of the animal in the country.
