The Astronomical Society of India (ASI), established in the year 1972, is an association of Indian Astronomers. On account of its upcoming 50th anniversary, ASI and its public outreach programme, wish to explore the idea of developing astronomy-themed illustrated books or other content, typically for high school students.

The brief was open to us in terms of choosing what we wish to analyse, interpret and express within the broad field of astronomy. The final outcome would be made available in various Indian languages to increase its reach across the country.

For this project I have chosen the topic “The Astronomical Endeavours of Jai Singh” and it would be a graphic novel on one of his most famous contributions, the Jantar Mantar observatories. The time in which they were created as well as the level of accuracy that they were able to achieve for naked eye observations is truly worth learning. Through this one story alone, the reader is exposed to subjects like history, astronomy and maths in an engaging format.
