Industrial design is a creative activity whose aim is to determine the formal qualities of objects produced by industry. Metal workshop, Material Workshop, Wood Workshop, Plastic Workshop, Ceramic Workshop, Paint Studio, Bamboo Studio, Product Division Cell, Ergonomics Laboratory, Wavefront Lab, Photo Studio, and so on were the main labs and studios at IDC starting in 1994. Prof. Athavankar’s first project, as an industrial designer in IDC, was the redesign of the postbox, Ashok Abraham George's inner city taxi, Adamya Ashk's Partition system in Bamboo, etc. were all the industrial designs of that time (1994–1998). International Seminar on Design Education 'Ulm and After' (1994), Terra-cotta Workshop by Mrs. Vimala Jain, Stained Glass Workshop by Ms. Vanamala Jain, Exploration of Calligraphy by Akalan (1997), and Visual Communication Design as a Marketing Tool (1998) are some of the major seminars, workshops, and conferences conducted by IDC.
