Industrial design is a creative activity that aims to determine the formal qualities of industrially produced objects. IDC started as an industrial design centre in 1969. In 1984, started Communication Design in M.des and in 2005, started Phd in IDC. M.Des in Animation and M.Des in Interaction Design in 2006. The students' projects of that time (2004–2008) were: Domestic Water Purifier for Rural Areas by Purba Joshi; Design of an Oriya Font for Onscreen Reading by Biswas Nirmal Bimal; Manual Transportation of Water for Domestic Use in Rural Areas by D'souza Mark Philip; and Retail Visual Identity for BPCL by Prof. Ravi Poovaiah. Prof. Nina Sabnani, Prof. Sumant Rao, Prof. Mandar S Rane, Prof. Sandesh R, and Prof. K Ramachandran are among the new faculty members who joined during that time period. Expo CD, Expo PDi, and Expo Signage, Design Degree Show are some of the major exhibitions, workshops, and events held by IDC.
