Industrial design is a creative activity that aims to determine the formal qualities of industrially produced objects. IDC started as an industrial design centre in 1969. In 2015, B.Des and M.Des in Integrated Design started at IDC. In 2016, IDC introduced the Mobility Lab and Proof of Concept Lab. Some of the students' projects from that time (2014–2018) were: Design of Nose Cone for Mumbai Local by Akhil Kumar; Bionics in Mobility Design: Smart Transportation for Smart Cities by Pankaj Kuli; Quadracycle by Unni Mohan; and Jellow Communicator by Prof. Ravi Poovaiah. Prof. Jayesh Pillai, Prasad Bokil, Vivek Kant, Avinash Shende, and Swati Pal are some of the new faculty members who joined during that time. Expo CD, Expo PDi, Typoday, The Alumni Meet, Cumulus Mumbai 2015, Exhibition 4D Living, Interact 2017 Mumbai, Workshops by Greg Daly, Industrial Design Day 2018, etc. are some of the major exhibitions, workshops, and events held by IDC.
