Raghurajpur’s leading painter, Jagannath Mahapatra has been instrumental in establishing Raghurajpur as the village of exquisite Patta Chitra. Amongst other senior craftsmen is Jayadev Moharana, one of the last surviving artists of Ganjappa. The base of the cards is mainly done by the womenfolk and the male artists paint figures on them that include elaborate Hindu themes and illustrations.
Old men in the village can be seen sitting in groups, eating peanuts and playing these cards. The game is played between a minimum of four players.
