Introduction

  • Printer-friendly version

Bicycles seem to be a cheaper and viable alternative to light weight vehicles and two-wheelers when it comes to covering short distances. Bicycles are cheap, Eco-friendly, healthy, faster in traffic and enjoyable when it comes to exploring places. Urban cities, such as Mumbai, face a situation of overcrowded and congested roads due to high vehicle density. Mumbai has the most number of cars per kilometer in India. Bicycles, in such a situation, might act as a partial solution to the traffic congestion on the road.

Throughout the world, many government, social and personal initiatives have been undertaken to encourage cycling among people. Learning from these initiatives and the current scenarios, we propose a service as an intervention to promote and enable cycling. The project started out aiming towards encouraging people to cycle for non-recreational purposes, which then, after collecting insights and observing behaviors, was narrowed down to encouraging people to be involved in the cycling community so as to increase their interest in cycling.
