Introduction

  • Printer-friendly version

'Designing stencil font in Devanagari script' is a project which aims to create a set of a stencil that can be used by signboard painters to create Devanagari letter form with improved legibility and to supplement it with a digital font.

If the same content has to be printed over and over again on different places or surfaces, the easiest method is to make a stencil of that content. This method has been in use traditionally since long back. In India, especially in Mumbai, though the technology has developed, a traditional method of using a stencil to write public notices is still used by the government or municipal corporations. It is mainly written in Roman and Devanagari script as Devanagari is predominantly used in Mumbai. Therefore, the fonts that are not meant for stencil are also used due to fonts' unavailability.
