Designing a portable operation room for remote locations

Healthcare is a basic right, but many people around the world still do not have access to safe surgical care. In remote areas, performing surgery can be difficult because of limited facilities and the lack of a sterile environment. Transporting patients to distant hospitals can also be risky and time-consuming.

This project focuses on designing a portable operating room (OR) that can be transported and assembled at the required location. It will provide a sterile environment and include essential equipment needed for surgeries such as caesarean sections, wound treatment, dental procedures, and eye surgeries.

Unlike a mobile OR inside a vehicle, this portable OR can be set up directly at the site. It can be useful in medical camps, disaster areas, defence, accident and trauma care, and remote locations. It can also support organ-extraction procedures for transplantation. The main aim is to make safe surgical care possible even where regular hospital facilities are unavailable.
