The objective of this project is to design a service that streamlines the process of asset acquisition and management in BMC schools in Mumbai. The hardworking teachers of BMC schools seem unable to make full utilisation of their teaching potential due to constraints like poor learning environment, a non-visual way of delivering learning concepts, lack of sufficient reference materials and a faltering promise of delivering ICT education in all schools.
It has been observed, that the annual maintenance fund given to the school is spent in places not directly catering to the immediate teaching necessities of the teacher. The funds given explicitly for procuring learning references and teaching aids are low and insufficient. At the same time, newspapers churn out data regarding a huge amount of funds lying unutilised in the education sector. To bring transparency in the provision of such funds and for easy management of various assets like blackboards, furniture, stationaries, computers, projectors, etc., I propose a system that streamlines the process. Also, it seems that the teachers themselves are not aware of the requests they can make to the Government for the provision of assets that are important for delivering quality education to the students.
In cases they do, oftentimes the huge load of paperwork and lack of administrative personnel kills their motivation to acquire these necessary assets. In the system I propose, there would be a support service provided primarily by the NGOs, to create awareness about asset acquisition and to help the teachers for handling the paperwork in such processes. Also, this service would leverage the expertise and collective knowledge of the entire teacher community to make better decisions.
