Music Videos:
A Music Video is basically the play of visuals matched to music that is used to promote the music. Music Videos are different from traditional films with their sound tracks. It has different realms of freedom and restrictions than films. Most of the restrictions are to do with the length and the genre of the song. The main freedom that the music video offers is the freedom from traditional narratives.
An Animated Music Video ‐ Sleep is on the way:
The narrator feels the day to day appearance of the music video had made them invisible to the senses hence realized how radical and interesting Music videos were, and how they were almost continuously breaking new ground in content and technique. Initially, the narrator saw these videos as only supporting visuals of no major importance that might add to the catchiness, but soon realized that the free flowing nature of a song allowed creators to come up with ideas and narratives that were more interesting than if it were fashioned as a short film of the same length.
The attempt made for this project was to create an entertaining animated music video for an existing song 'Sleep is on the way' by Arthur Yoria. Try to explore abstraction in animation, along with animating to music and hence manage to convey ideas without a fixed narrative, where one can improvise a lot over the imagery. After trying couple of different styles; Cutout animation, which narrator feels is an unorthodox and interesting style was used for the final film. A major portion of the project was of course trying to work out how to sync the animation to the music.
